I wouldn't normally recommend someone with only a couple weeks sailing experience going to the North Channel, especially alone.
This is pretty big water, 90 miles long and 20 some miles wide at the widest.
It's semi-protected but can get damn rough. We had a storm blow up a few years back, that scattered the fleet over 15 miles.
You have to have pretty decent navigation skills, as there's a lot of rock out there.
The best areas are around the Benjamins to the west, and Bay Fine / Covered Portage to the east of Little Current.
We're partial to Thomas Bay, but that's out of the North Channel proper into Georgian Bay.
Spanish is a great marina.
