I think the issue of anchor depends upon a couple of factors: Lake vs. Seashore, Trailer vs. Slip, and the type of bottom that you anchor in most often. For instance, I keep my boat on a slip at a lake with a bottom that not only holds well but has a tendancy to eat anchors (old tree stumps). Accordingly, an inexpensive anchor I bought from a Walmart in Pensacola hangs on my pulpit with about 6' worth of chain. Undersized for coastal conditions but it holds great on my lake and if the lake eats it or someone appropriates it I am only out about $15.
However, I do have two more anchors tucked away onboard with one of them being a Fortress anchor for when I do trailer the boat down to coastal Florida. I shift the Fortress to the pulpit and use the Wally World anchor as my stern beach anchor.
In short, I love cheap anchors for my boat but completely understand while Vick would want something better to quickly deploy.
