They are being cleared out at a Canadian "institution" called Canadian Tire.
At $174 CDN they area good deal - I could only find similar (cell manufacture and construction) for slightly over $300 USD.
And there was only one left at the store I went to. They have now switched to less expensive Chinese panels ($100 vs $250 their cost).
I did however find an excellent source of inexpensive charge controllers. Many of these simply switch the panel on and off the battery - like the ancient battery chargers.
A good controller is microprocessor based and 3 - 4 stage, like a modern battery charger.
Some also have a lighting output that is great to automatically operate your anchor light.
Others have tightly regulated output - instead of running your electrics off the battery, they go through the controller. This provides accurate 12V as well as auto disconnect when the battery gets low.
Unfortunately, these tend to be pricey.
Fortunately, you'll flip at the prices at this company: http://www.futurlec.com/Solar_Charge_Controller.shtml
They also have inexpensive digital panel meters: http://www.futurlec.com/Panel_Meters.shtml
