I have a 26D with 4hp Suzuki, 2 cycle engine. It will get around the Marina.. and on the lake it will go hull speed... at about 2/3 power. That's good. We are going to get a bigger motor - and that is because we are going on the Gulf pretty soon.. I have a concern about inlets, wind, currents, and the like. I think you should try it - and consider where you are going... doesn't hurt. As said, the shat length matters... just my 0.02 worth - and there are a lot more experienced comments already on this site... just use the search function to search on motor, shaft length, and repower..... good luck,.... ---jr
