Prop matters

It makes a big difference if you have a 6" pitch prop like Tohatsu has on their 6hp ultra long shaft and I think is the same spline as their 4hp. I had an 8" and a 6" on a Tohatsu 5hp. 8" would cavitate and lose its grip on the water hoping to push a big boat too fast that was never possible. 6" was plenty all the time I needed it. Would expect a 4hp to get you home and meet most needs unless you expect to fight 4 knot currents or 20mph winds -if it has an 8" prop.
