(pic) (Francois M26S Vancouver Island) The 8 actually will go to just under wide open throttle, maybe 7/8, before it pretty much stops making any difference. I can get Just a tiny bit more speed going up to WOT, but, to be honest, it is really VERY LITTLE difference. So, the reality is, that 8HP is probably the max effective engine, and your experience bears that out. I suspect the only real justification is that there is a bit more power in reserve on the 9.9 if ever needed for running an inlet or getting through square waves on a bad day.
