and I think it was done at the factory or at least at the dealer originally because there are those plastic covers inside to "finish" the areas where more holes had to be drilled in the deck liner for the extra cleat....
I don't use the fairleads anymore because I found that their location put the furling line in a very bad spot on deck...too easy to step on and loose footing like RIGHT NOW... a very real hazard. I now just run the line on the outside of the stanchions and I've never had a problem with it even though the line is not "captivated" by anything...
One thing you have to remember is the location has to be close to that location (as opposed further back in the cockpit) because as you work the furling line, in or out, it's best to keep some kind of tension on the headsail sheet so that you end up with a tight wrap of the headsail...or a tight wrap of the furling line in the drum....
