Lake Havasu Poker Run

There may be someone wondering why Don Rhodes has not signed up for the Havasu Poker Run. The answer is simple. Deep snow in the storage yard and/or hazardous road conditions make it not so desirable to tow a sailboat at this time of year. Too many times I have paid to enter the Arizona Yacht Club Birthday Regatta and have not been able to participate.

But looking ahead, I decided to take a premptive approach and take her over to Lake Havasu today. I took her out of the storage yard yesterday and it would not have been possible if I had not had a four wheel drive vehicle. The snow was only about twenty inches deep but since it has been so cold, it was as hard as concrete in front of the trailer.

I did take her over to Lake Havasu today and put her in a wet slip at the Marina. Now, another reason for writing this little piece is that if there is anyone thinking that too many people have signed up for this event and that the slips would all be taken at the London Bridge Resort, don't fret. There were a ton of slips available at the Marina. The cost: $28 a day or $180 a month. Pretty good since Lake Pleasant, near Phoenix is now at the $400 a month rate. Or more!

In closing I must say that little Montgomery 17 sure looked pretty floating in that slip. As I have written before, Jerry Montgomery delivered her to my driveway in March of 1989 and it was love at first sight. With the boat, NOT Jerry!
