shorter or modified rig for sage 17 or any other boat

Having seen Judy B's modified M15 brings me to the question could the folks at Sage use the same mast or a shorter one, install a square top main sail and use a mast without spreaders and just a forestay and shrouds. You could call this a cruising rig versus the designed racing rig. This in my opinion would satisfy my need to see a better single handed boat and a simplier rig not much different than the M15. Hey this why we post on forums so please consider the question and the need to lower the center of effort and hence the boat becomes more stable in a blow. Thanks for your considerate responses. catsailor
