Confused reefing M 17

Report: outside forum guidelines

Got the first sail in today on our new to us M 17. When I went to put a reef in the Main I found I think a missing gromment in the sail or is there some speacial way of reefing the main that I am missing? This is an Elliott Pattison mainsail if that makes any difference. Pic of sail attached. Thanks Reid
