Reefing the M15

Got my first chance to reef my M15. It was blowing about 15 knots. I have a nice wind meter, so the measurements are good. One reef was OK with me single handing the boat, but two would be better with that amount of wind. I found no difficulty handling the boat, and she'll take a lot more than me, but many times with a gust I had quite a bit of weather helm, and would heel often to 30 degrees. I maintained about 5.0 knots of speed. But rereading some of the old posts, I came across one with Dave Scobie who recommended going to the 2nd reef at about 15 knots in the M15. Looks right to me. So, I will bring my main down to the sail maker (John Amen in Petaluma) to add another set. I added the hook (Dwyer) to my goose neck, so that makes it much easier. So I will add another line on the port side of the boom this time for the second reef line. Learning!
