Re-posted from the Havasu Pocket Cruisers Forum with the permission of Phil from Trailer Sailor..Thanks Phil!
> As many of you know, the Crew of Dauntless traveled to Monterey, CA in July and participated in the Cruiser Challenge put on by the Potter Yachters. Wow. We had a fabulous time. What a great event. After it was over, as usual, I became a shameless self promoter and posted a youtube video of the experiences that we had there. First it was just video and snapshots 'Jo and I took, and then Larry sent us a dvd of his stuff and I added that in as a "second edit" and re-posted the video.

:
: As of today between the two videos they have had around 850 hits, which based on my previous experiences posting videos (and I post quite a few) is a pretty good repsonse! I really enjoy making them and sharing the experience. Whenever I make a video like that I am really making a memory for 'Jo and I to keep forever. I think I have close to 60 videos posted on Youtube over the last 5 or so years and not too infrequently I go back and watch them to relive a particular trip or event. I don't follow "the rules" for "popular videos" like keeping them to 3, but not more than 4 minutes long to keep the viewer engaged, because frankly, I make the video that appeals to me and try to incorporate all the stuff I want to remember. Regardless, apparently trailer sailors like to watch vidoes of trailer sailors.
:
: Whenever you post something like that you often receive comments on the video. They come in many forms. Some post on the Youtube video page itself, others will email directly and some post comments on various sailing message boards where I post links to the video. This particular video generated a comment that has really stuck in my head since it was posted on the trailersailor.com West Wight Potter Forum. It is from Jerry out of Pennsylvania. Here is the part of that post I am talking about:
:
: "Sean...You and your crew epitomize what the joy of sailing can look like when everyone is in the right frame of mind. It reminds me of my surfing days when someone who surfed for the pure joy of being in the ocean was called a "soul surfer". The Dauntless crew are truly "soul sailors". "
:
: Wow. I love this. What a compliment. Yes! Jerry gets it!! I have never put those words to it (soul sailor)....but since Jerry posted it I cannot get it out of my head. We ARE soul sailors, as are you guys. We share that. There is a connection/bond there. We love the experience of sailing and sharing that with like minded friends. The time on the water and at the docks is an escape from the mundane, boring, or even tragic events of everyday life. The every day grind is made worthwhile knowing that you your efforts will reward you with the ability to experience the "escape" again. It's addictive. It's healthy. It's what makes us who we are.
:
: "Soul Sailor".....I think it fits what we do perfectly. Do you?
:
: I would like some feedback on this. What do you think? My idea is to adopt "soul sailor" as a monicker for those that share what we share. Along with adopting the term as our moniker, I have an idea for a logo that would go along with it. It would be rather abstract shape of a full sail incorporating two letter "S"s in it. Right under the graphic would be the words
: "Is it in you?"
:
: The idea would be two fold.
:
: 1.To remind you when you see of it what you are about and that you are part of a larger family.
: 2.To prompt others to inquire if they saw it on your shirt, a small decal on your car or boat, your hat, keychain, whatever....."what's that all about?". It would then open to door to share with them what we do and hopefully attract others to get involved. Of course, any other "soul sailor" seeing you display the logo would know instantly that you shared their love of sailing and the common bond right off the bat. Being a Soul Sailor has nothing to do with attending the HPCC....but if you DO attend...most likely you ARE a Soul Sailor.
:
: Am I whacked here??? Let me know. I have talked myself into this idea....but sometimes I go off on goofy tangents. Would you think that displaying a logo like this would be something you would do in some form or another (hat, shirt, decal ??)? If we were to create the brand, it would be as a fund gererator for the HPCC. It's just and idea right now. But make no mistake....in my mind.... Jerry is right...The crew of Daunltess are "Soul Sailors"...are you?
:
: Please let me know your feelings here. I don't want to encroach on any rules or make anyone upset. I just though this was kind of a cool idea and a way that we could help generate funds that can be used for the Havasu Pocket Cruiser Convention.
