Well, it was a gloomy weekend here in Del Mar (North San Diego Coastline) and I pulled my "new to me" 1985 Montgomery 15, Hull #331 home to the driveway to begin my planned upgrades and modifications.
I had gotten my new halyards and topping lift and planned on installing them, and also modifying/organizing my deck in order to have my two halyards and the topping lift led back to the cockpit.
I purchased my Monty from Wisconsin and had her trekked to the west coast a month ago. She was a well cared for boat and one of the prior owners had things pretty well organized to start. I was pleased to find that he had already installed a setup for a jib downhaul and a spinaker line along the port rail and coaming that went back to a camcleat at the cockpit. However, he only had one of the halyards led aft on the port cabintop. My plan was to have all lines led aft.
I first started my work on the masthead. I removed the old line to wire main halyard, and took off the old topping lift that was affixed to the masthead fitting. There are a couple of photos (a bit blurry...sorry)of the old setup in my photo log link below.
I then added a new Ronstan cheekblock to the starboard side of the top of the mast just below the fitting for the Davis Windex, for my topping lift. It turned out perfect.
Next to the deck. On the port side, the one existing halyard organizer had a single block on a padeye that ran athwart to a cheek block. I removed the single block and in its place added a double 90 degree line organizer about 4" to port of the mast base, and another cheekblock just offset from the one that was already installed. I then added a bullet eye fairlead for each of the two halyards that will now be led aft on this port cabintop where I will use the two camcleats that were already installed by the prior owner.
I then added a single 90 degree line organizer to the starboard side of the mast and a cheek block to port and bullet eye fairlead that will lead my topping lift line back to a camcleat.
I enjoy taking photos of my before/after projects and will be continuing to do so as my restoration continues and will continue to post so that others that want to upgrade will have some frame of reference on what I have done.
I have been "lurking" on the list for awhile and have "searched" endlessly to get smarter on the projects I planned and have gotten a ton of valuable information from you all! Time to pay it forward a bit!
