I am "looking" at a 1984 Montgomery 15 with strong possibility of purchase (even though an 860 mile tow home). Although I have not yet seen the boat with my own eyes, a former surveyor friend is looking at it this week for me and rendering an opinion.
The owner states that the rudder (wood?) is original and has developed a slight amount of "twist". He says that he can feel no appreciable difference in his cruising. I have little intention to race (but may someday).
Has anyone else had this experience and, if so, is it anything to be concerned about or is it a pretty common minor item.
The only other less than glowing seller commentary is that the boat has a "scuff" on the port side at the sheer strake beneath the toe rail. Won't know how severe that is until commentary comes from my initial "looker" friend.
Thanks in advance for your comments. I have been quite well educated on the wonderful Montgomery boats by this board.
