I came "this close" to buying a used Potter 15, the prices and availability are attractive. I like the fact that thousands of people own them, and that there is a very active Potter group in my area (SF Bay). I would have liked that little P15, but someone beat me to it. Then I got VERY lucky and found a beautiful M15 within 100 miles of home. Needless to say I snapped it up. It was more than twice the price of the Potter, but I LOVE this boat.
Besides those comparisons: The Potter has a chine hull, the Monty has a traditional lapstrake design. The Potter is a semi-displacement/semi-planing hull, the M15 a displacement hull. Both have a swinging centerboard, but the Montgomery has a keel (balasted). There's no compression post in the M15 cabin, I really like that. If I'm not mistaken, the HMS Potter I was interested in didn't have an actually place designed for a Porta-Potti either. Both boats are Fractional Rig Sloops.
One other comparison, I truely believe I could quickly sell my 1985 M15 for what I paid for it, maybe more. I don't know if the same could be said for the Potter 15 I missed out on.
