Overhead

I am interested in installing an special overhead in my M 15. I have a lot of exposed through bolts that could cut into one's head. Also, I would like to increase the flotation of the boat at the same time. I have considered gluing closed cell foam to the overhead, then covering it with some coating or fabric for the sake of appearance. Do any of you have experience with this? If so, I would like to know about your project, your selection of glues, inexpensive closed cell, and the overhead/ceiling covering.
