Replacing tabernacle/mast step

Greetings all. We just purchased M17 hull #628. The PO modified the step on the boat so you can slip the mast with bolt in; he cut away the top of the step. We have found Dywer has hinged mast steps which we'd like to upgrade with. The Dywer hinged step would make raising/lowering the mast much easier and more stable. Has anyone upgraded their tabernacle/mast step? If so, please provide as much information/detail/photos you can. We're in the process of outfitting our boat in preparation of total retirement, and lots of sailing next year. Of course, we hope to have things ready to go much much sooner, like sept/nov this year. We are very happy with our 2005 M17; we can't wait to get her wet! We'd also like to know the best method to tune the rigging; do we need a loos guage? We didn't get an owners' manual with this boat; I don't think there is one? Early thanks for any help, John
