I have had my M17 now for about three weeks now and I have realized some interesting things. I had a 1979 M17 about 18 years ago and the changes that have been made are incredible. I wasn’t sure if I would like the clamcleats for the jib, but they are perfectly aligned with where I sit and really hold the jib. The sails are excellent, I went with the 135 furling jib and I am really happy I did. The sail slugs/slides on the main work extremely well, my previous M17 had a bolt rope for the main. I like the Ida Sailor rudder, it is very smooth and responsive, previous M17 had a large mahogany rudder, which was very easy to use but would vibrate at hull speed. The cockpit area just seems to fit my body size very well, where I sit, I have good access to the motor, control lines, and tiller.
Last weekend I had my other boat, a Seaward Fox on the lake along with M17, which was really fun. The M17 weighs about 300lbs more than the Seaward and had 3 people in it, and we simply walked away from the Seaward Fox with her crew of two.
