I'm using a "D" stainless steel shackle from Harken. I have one that has a screw pin, but am changing to a spring loaded pin for faster and easier use. I'll tie a short lanyard on the pin so it will be easy to pull with cold hands of gloves. One challenge is finding a d ring that has the proper diameter to pass through the tack grommet at the goose neck. Be sure and measure your grommet size before heading off to West Marine's hardware department, or take your sail with you and try a few sizes. Different lengths are also available. Hope this helps.
