Q.Is there something that keeps the mast up when the sail is down? A.I believe its called "standing rigging" In your case, that would be the shrouds and the forestay.

Q.Is there supposed to be a rope to the mast to hold the boom down (put tension on the sail) when the sail is up? Or just the rope to the stern? A.Its called "downhaul". I use the end of the main halyard for this function, but you can have a separate line if you wnat.

Q.Where could I find a new "car" that fits inside the boom and hooks to the haylard and the sail? A.Have no idea what you mean. Usually, the tack of the main is attached to the end of the boom, and the halyard is attached to the head of the sail.

Q.Do you have to put the clips into the mast everytime you raise the sail or is there a way to hold the clips into the mast? A. No clips. The luff of the mainsail has a boltrope which you feed into the groove in the mast when you raise the main.

Hope this helps.
