Eric, they did not come with a backstay in any of their several iterations. However, if you want one, it would be a simple matter to shorten your boom and shorten the foot of the sail as well. Question is, is that a worthwhile pursuit? Interestingly, a couple of years ago I polled several members of this forum about their boom lengths. No one had the same length. They ranged from 8'9.5" to 10'. Dick
