My friend has a Surprise or a Windmill model Newport. I can't figure out how to rig the main sheet. It seems the main sheet is passed through the mainsheet cleat on the thart, then up to the pulley at mid-boom out to the pulley on the boom end and possibly down through the two pulley's at the transom. The directions for rigging the Newport 16 states to then run the main sheet - "up to the tang on the end of the boom where you make it fast with a bowline".

I'm not sure what a tang is? Can anyone help?

thanks, Joel
