Spreaders - How to tighten

Can anyone explain how the mini spreaders are attached to the mast on a Neptune 16? They are small little tubes (1/2" diam.) about 12" long and appear to attach directly to mast with a nut on end? My spreaders are very sloppy/wobbly and I can't figure out how to tighten them down. A pic with an explanation would work great! Thanks!
