Frank Yes when the line is pulled through the jam cleat the blocks should only have an inch or two between them when the board is all the way up. Another important item to remember is to tie a knot in the line after it is threader through the cleat, otherwise if you let go of the line when lowering the board it can drop in the trunk past the shackle damaging the front of the slot and stressing the pin that is glassed in at the bottom. I would also reconmend a good pc of line as there is a lot of stress on it. By the way ,the line is 1/4 in x 9 ft
