I had a Neptune 16, and found it a very easy to sail and rugged boat. It is a little cramped for camping, but two of us did overnight in it, and several days would be possible.
My favorite feature was set up time at launch was 15 minutes from stopped to backing into the water. The swing keel is great for shallow water, obstructions you hit, and ease of launch, as well as beaching or anchoring in a foot of water and walking ashore.
You did not post the water that you will be sailing, and that makes a big difference on the relative vallue of a fixed or retractable keel.
For overnight I had 3 large water resistant plastic boxes (not sealed, waterproof, but rain proof) and a large cooler, and when we anchored, all the boxes and cooler went into the cockpit to make room inside. Since the were rain tight, they could be left out in weather, and did not have dew in them in the morning. This was also suitable tactics for a downpour, drop anchor, evict the boxes, and go below.
