The fill-in cushion seems strong enough to not require additional support. At 180lbs, I can sit in the middle of the cushion (without a center support) and not have any serious bowing downward. The plywood base of the cushion is pretty strong. That being said, however, I am going to still strengthen the unsupported middle by simply slabing a 3/4 inch piece of 6 inch wide lumber, perhaps 2 or so feet long, to the aft most edge of the plywood base to give the cushion some additional strength for the suspended section. I will epoxy then wood screw the slab to the plywood.
Who knows when a 240 lb person may sit on the cushion.
