Look at the N24 manual on the Capital site and you will find that the standard shroud configeration (for eash side of the mast) is that there are three shrouds attach to separate chain plates; the upper attaches even with the mast, and the two lowers attach one forward and one aft of the mast. This arrangement gives VERY good mast column support. The lower, aft shroud does not interfere with getting the boom way out when running with the wind. (and I run wing-on-wing a lot)
You can also look at any older (80's) Catalina 22 or 25. They have exactly the same, very sensible, shroud placement.
Do not move the aft lower shroud attachment point (chain plate). It is necessary for it to be slightly aft of the mast, as they are placed, like any guy wires supporting a tower, somewhat opposite of its' opposite side shroud.
As a whole, this boat is VERY well designed and thought out; I wouldn't change anything structural without really thinking it through.
