I have the same main set up as you do. I tried a traveler set up with a simple adjustment tension using a bowline on a blight to connect the main. I don't know if I like it so much, it resembled something I had setup with my old sunfish as a kid, but with some play.
The genny is definately not the original jib, I painted the trim yellow to make it look like it belongs. Stupid genny is a weakness on tacing hard upwind in my opinion, but I'm not racing the thing so I wil have to let that go. It has other bonuses for sail though.
I had the boat out in 20+ last weekend. I took down the jib once the wind picked up and whitecaps formed. I did not have to reef the sail, but was allowing a lot of luff to compensate. I realized the shame in not having a boom vang installed when I wanted to reach. I kept the sail in and took up my centerboard for my downwind approaches.
When I have all the bugs out, I will upload some pictures of my rigging. Now I will just have some fun playing with a few things. It did sail stable in the high wind and gusts, I was impressed, other bigger hulls were reefing their sails to maintain.
