In Response To: Gloucester 16 or ComPac 16 - What to buy (Rodney Moore)

My neighbor who got me reinterested in the idea of "gunkholing" and own both a 16'and a 19' Compact said, "The best boat for you is the one you'll sail most often." I'm sure that bears some qualification, but is the best rule of thumb. I like to "park" in the shallows for a range of activities, including poking around and exploring. At 56 I still love my "naturalist" side. If you're like me the G-16 first, C16 second. But, if you're looking for the toughest sailing boat for wide open water, in heavier winds and seas then C16 first and G16 second. Frankly, either boat is a fine choice. I chose the G16 because I'm more interested in some speed (not racing) and best in and around beach/shore access. Two of the best choices in the class though and the two you're most likely to find.-------Good Luck
