Went and checked out a Nimble 20 this weekend (between the rain showers). Good looking boat with everything I need so far. What I need to know is what problem areas to look for. Any current Nimble owners got any ideas on what to check for?
Upon my inspection, here is a few things I found that need attention: 1) Where life line attaches to the deck, needs to be reinforces and rebeded. Has a slight leak. 2) Need to replace window gasket. Any Ideas where to get gaskets or how to do it? 3) No bottom paint, and of couse sitting in water has developed a few years of build up. The green hair will have to come off! 4)Rudder has spider cracking in the gel coat. I know gel coat will crack, but from the looks of it, I could use some additional structural stiffness added back to it. Upper rudder bracked seems shorter in the connection to the Hull. You can see a old hole where the bracked used to attach.(see photo below) 5) New running and standing rigging. Possible new sails. Any thoughts on aftermarket sails? 6) to paint or not to paint the hull. Maby a good washing and adding the poliglow stuff. (anyone tried this stuff yet? Does it work?) 7) Hull liner was loose on the hull sides. Did not seamed connected. Is this ok?
Things that I liked. - Very Stiff boat. I could walk my heavy 250lb frame on the deck and noticed no flexing or cracking. What I realy liked was that the boat was very staible with me hanging on the shrouds and leaning out. - I am not a small guy, got the lineman football build look going, and found the cabin realy comfortable. I could even move around rather well without bumping or knocking myself. - looks like a fun boat.
What else should I have checked out?
