I have spent the better part of two days removing Matilda's centerboard, and thought some of you might be interested in knowing more about yours. To begin with, the pretty box shaped structure that juts up out of the center of the cabin sole is just that. A pretty three-sided box shaped structure. The actual housing for the centerboard is inside the box, and where the sides of the "box" are about 1/8" thick, the "real" housing, which is laid up rough, is a minimum of 3/8" thich. The centerboard itself is a 1/8" thick fiberglass shell that is filled with a dense foam that surrounds a large chunck of 1/2" thick lead. The steel rod that holds the centerboard in place is located about 4" aft of the galley, and 4" off the sole, and in case anyone is wondering how they could go about removing it, the rod that is, my suggestion is to take two asprin, and hope the idea goes away.
