Trailer rebuild

Jim,

I have considered a rebuild, but want to find out how much an aluminum, low maintenance, unit would cost first. I would need to replace the front draw bar assembly, surge unit, and replace the drums with disc on my current trailer, at the very least. The PO installed a tongue extension on the trailer that I cannot free up, and seems to have rusted in place, effecting the main draw bar. It also needs new tires all around. Then there is the age/dependability issue (weld fractures, etc.).

Overall, I expect to pay more for a new trailer, but I think the peace of mind benefit might balance out the additional cost. Once I have the estimate, I could decide my course.

Anyone out there replace their trailer recently, and if so, what was the cost of your aluminum unit?
