I am not that familiar with the Vagabond's hull configuration, but if it is built on the Sharpie design like most Nimbles, I am not surprised at the weathervaning.
I know my '92 Artic will weathervane quite well in a forward on wind (sails down, low speed). I think it is due to the Pilothouse and the lack of a deep keel (mine is the fixed shoal draft) that would provide the needed lateral resistance due to the increased "sail effect" of the raised Pilothouse structure.
I found that by picking up the speed a bit and keeping the rudder board down the weathervaning disappeared, even in a good blow.
Is the weathervaning present at all speeds, or just a low rev?
