Hi All
Just arrived home tonight with a 1993 Nimble Kodiak which Dr. Joseph Binnard was kind enough to sell me last fall. Named the Windekind II by Dr. Joseph Binnard, its new home moved north about 15 miles from its previous home in Wisconsin. Its new home will be in Sturgeon Bay WI, located on that little thumb of land that pokes into Lake Michigan from Wisconsin's East side.
I want to thank all who have posted on the board as it was through extensive reading of posts and other internet sources that I settled on this fine ship. I have not sailed on it before but know it will fit into my future plans of longer cruises on Lake Michigan and beyond. I also hope it will also serve as my sea kayak tender, as kayaking is another passion.
A bit of history from Dr. Binnard; The Windekind II is the second Kodiak build and is of the B-Plan layout. B-Plan by his account stands for Binnard Plan. This has the head forward and a berth where the chart table/head was. It is a shoal draft keel without centerboard and has a 900# lead shoe. I do not know if this is Extra weight beyond the normal keel weight or not. Windekind comes with a 27hp westerbeke diesel which was one of the selling points for me. He says it will go on plane when you push it. We shall see.
So, I sleep well tonight, new boat home and all kinds of little fix up projects to dream about. The only bad thing is that WINTER is coming back to the region again. Predicting anywhere from 5-8" on snow in the next 24 hours. Brrrrr...
See Ya on the Water
