In Response To: About the Yamaha 9.9 (Stephen - Nimble 24 - North of Baton Rouge)

The motor is a 4 stroke and very heavy. I don't think anyone is making small 2 strokes anymore. I feel that as much weight as possible should be kept out of the ends of any sail boat, especially a canoe stern. Most important to me is that I can't handle it by myself very easily. It is much heavier than the old Honda 4 stroke I had. The model I have is a 9.9 High Thrust w/electric start & 25" shaft. I don't know what it weights but it has to well over 100 lbs. I also don't think I need any more power than a good 6HP would provide making for less weight in the stern and more importantly I could easily handle it by myself.
