I repowered my Arctic last year going from the Yamaha 9.9 high thrust to a Mercury 9.9 lightweight model so I can handle it myself. The dealer gave me a prop designed for thrust and not speed. I have noticed very little difference in motoring characteristics.
I initially went with a 20" shaft and it didn't fit. The flat plate above the propeller rubbed against the motor well. Fortunately the dealer had a 5" extension kit that has worked just fine.
If I had to do it all over again, I would go with a 15 instead of the 9.9. With so much of the boat above water and exposed, it's slow going motoring into a stiff breeze. Since I'm on Kerr Lake, it's rarely an issue.
