I guess, for most people, selling a boat means that you are giving up a certain amount of pleasant sailing memories. For me, however, there is a lot more tied into this boat than just the sailing. The boat came to me as a fufillment of a much earlier (and quite different) dream.
After college, when I thought I had life by the horns, I was zipping around town in a little MG Midget. Then one day my life was turned upside down when I encountered another fellow driving a beautiful Morgan. One sight of that Morgan was enough to convince me that I had to have one. I ordered one of these fabulous hand-built British cars from a dealer who told me that the car could be had with brass plated radiator surround and trim--instead of the usual chrome. I had no trouble envisioned a British Racing Green Morgan with brass trim (and of course a leather bonnet strap...) Then began the long, painful wait while the car was being built.
As the months of waiting drew to a close, I was "surprised" by a sudden callup of my Air National Guard unit. This was 1968--just after the "Tet Offensive"... within a few weeks, I was sent to VietNam... and the order for my beautiful Morgan was cancelled. Other guys in my unit were crying about having to be away from their families for a year---all I could think about was that green and brass Morgan.
The Morgan never happened, but as life would have it, 25 years later I found myself searching for a sailboat for my family. In a classified ad I read about a Nimble 20 that was for sale. After driving several hundred miles to see the boat, I caught my first glimpse of it sitting in the owner's driveway. There was this dark green Nimble (with bronze and brass trim)---and I promptly broke into tears. The previous owner had named her "Truce" which, he told me, had something to do with a truce he had made with his girlfriend. He was a Nimble dealer and had this boat in inventory for several years. It was still brand new, but he figured that by that time the boat deserved a name.
Driving home, with the Nimble in tow, I soon realized why I was so drawn to her beautiful green hull... and re-named the boat "MORGAN Truce"---a fufillment of a long lost dream.
So there you have, as Paul Harvey would say... the rest of the story.

As I said previously, some things are easy to sell, others are more difficult.
