hand pump operation

ok, who knows how to purge the hand pump water line to get it going? I drained out my water tank in the winter and now after refilling I can't get any water flow through the hand pump to the sink. I've tried pouring water around the pump fittings to saturate the wick but still nothing comes out. any suggestions? craig
