The market for mass-produced items is far more predictable than it is for something which is available only in limited numbers. In the first instance, large numbers of people have established a price range. Limited items are priced at pretty much wherever two people agree.
People can probably go camping/sailing for quite a bit less than $3,000 if they choose a Chlorox bottle as a basis to start with---but HOW LONG will they keep at it when they find that they can easily walk away from it without casting admiring glances over their shoulder? Without that admiration, they are likely to return to the market far sooner than they planned. What's economical about that?
