Mine seems plenty adequate and has never been a problem. I have many times stood on the bumkin in the 18 years I have had this boat and don't see any ill effects. I would not hesitate to climb up using the rudder as a step if I could get around everything and it was my only way up. I know the 20's had a problem with the rudder hardware but I can't recall hearing anything about the larger boats.
