Surrounding the lower unit of my outboard, as the lower unit extends through it and on down below, is a piece of plywood painted with bottom paint and screwed or bolted to the hull. It makes lifting the motor out more difficult because of the small hole, and the need to wiggle the motor and propeller around to get them through the hole. I seem to remember Ed (N24 Sarasota) mentioning having a motor lift (or was that someone else), and wonder how that would work, given this challenge.
Question: how is that piece of wood attached? Is it meant to be removable?
Even more important question: is that piece of wood important for water flow to, around, and beyond the motor?
Sitting in salt water clearly has a long term effect on an outboard, and I am wondering about making it easier to take the motor out between outings.
