with any kind of lift system is that the motor can only be raised a few inches before it starts to interfere with the tiller. Another problem in my case is that I have remote engine controls (throttle, shift and electrical) which would complicate any system designed to raise the motor.
When I pull the motor to do maint, I use my main halyard connected to an outboard motor caddy. I run the halyard though a turning block on the end of the boom and use the main winch to hoist and lower the motor. I can actually lift the motor high enough so that it clears the rail and can swing it out over the side and lower it straight into the bed of my Avalanche parked beside the trailer. Because this system allows me to hold the motor at any height, it is easy for me to spin the prop a little so that it easily goes through the board on the bottom of the moter well.
