I sail a kodiak with shallow keel (2'10" draft) and 1300 lbs of ballast, yawl rigged. She is fairly stiff as I expect most boats with similar hull shapes. A characteristic of these boats seems to be their stability and I think I understand that as the boat heels over the hard chime digs in as a kinda secondary keel. But given the hull shape again what is the point of too much heel???? Has anyone done any kind of stability test to determine the safe maximum?? I'm just curious.
