In Response To: Re: Let's write.... (link) (Paul Miller, Nimble 20, Deland, FL)

I've sent the following note (with hyperlinks that didn't work here) off to BoatOwners.com headquarters to see what they think.

If they don't want to play, I can set something up and we can start collecting data and transfer it later if they come around. A friend has a Hunter 23.5 with what seems like a very good manual and that might be a good starting point for a framework of chapters and sections.

-----------------------------

Since there were never any owners manuals for the Nimble line of boats and the owners have had to scrape the information together the hard way, we've come up with the idea of writing our own in Wiki form. Nimble owners could add to the manual from first-hand experience and any documentation we're able to scrape up. I imagine it would generate extra traffic on the Nimble Sailboats Forum as the discussion as to the "right" way to do things would take place there.

It's easy enough to set up a copy of MediaWiki, but it would be nice to have it integrated with the forum pages. Actually, once it's set up, it would be trivial to let other SailbotOwners.com groups with a similar need collect their own information on other pages the same wiki, without any additional setup.

Since you aren't using PHP or SQL on the forums, it might be easier (if slightly less user-friendly) to set up a simple copy of a Perl wiki like Kwiki. Let me know if you need any tech help on this. If you're not interested, we can just set it up on a server somewhere, but it would still be nice to to have some links to integrate it.

Thanks, -Brent
