My lower gudgeon is "sistered" as you suggest (to 3x original thickness) but the compound angle isn't quite right (kinda like cutting a crown molding). If you decide to have a beefier gudgeon built, let me know and I'll go "halfsies" with you on the cost. I would really like to have a righteous gudgeon back there for when you're "out there".....
