The wood block is stock; at least that's the way it came to me when the boat was new.
The rudder fastenings always looked to me to be completely out of character with the rest of the boat. My best guess is that the boat's canoe stern is what severely limited the choice of hardware. RWO hardware is generally seen on much smaller boats. It might have been a better tactic to design the rudder / stern to make use of available heavy duty hardware (he said with perfect hindsight.) Of course, it's her stern that we all gaze at in admiration.
I hope the fix really cures the problem permanently. A boat like this should be able to come away from a light grounding in style.
