Many (if not all) Nimble 20 pintles and gudgeons were "under engineered". I cannot speak with any authority on that hardware in the rest of the fleet. On fairly simple sailboats, P & G's are just about the only moving parts... and in most assemblies, it's usually the moving part that first gives way.

If you search back through recent threads, you will find much discussion relating to the repair of these vital fittings.
