Despite the early colonists lack of bird identification skills, I think I would give pause before venturing out on any body of water named after a creature as ominous as the buzzard. I mean, like if you're having a really bad day... the mast is broken in two, the sails have fouled the rudder, the engine won't start, and the bilge is filling with water... the LAST thing you want to see is buzzards circling overhead!
