It's nice to see the name Vagabond on the forum.
Good luck in your search for a Vagabond. We purchased an 03 in June and love the boat. It's easy to launch & recover and motors along with little fuss. Our boat is powered with a 4-stroke Yamaha 30 HP and it's overpowered if anything and just sips fuel.
If you are looking for a fast boat, keep looking. The Vagabond motors hapily along at 5-6 1/2 mph. and in my mind that's perfect for a semi-displacement hull of only 20'. You can push her faster but of course the stern squats, the bow rises, you make more noise & use more fuel. We are former sailors and straight line motoring at 6 mph is pretty fine for us.
I drove almost 1200 miles round trip to get our boat and am happy I did. The boat is a little testy when docking in a crosswind but my inexperience with this style of boat (very shallow draft) is probably as much to blame as the design.
There's lots of storage and the joinery is very good quality. I don't believe these boats or their sisters were designed for rough water (flat bottom)but if you use the boat as its designer intended, you won't likely run into problems.
As mentioned, we are new owners but so far we are very pleased.
Good luck in your search,
Al H.
