The "Is my tow vehicle OK?" question is asked all the time. Not all would agree, but I think the concensus of the main board is that most any car can pull most any boat for a short distance on flat ground once every blue moon. But, the more you tow, and the longer distances you tow, and the hillier your terrain.... the more you want a powerful, heavy, long-wheelbase tow vehicle.
All my gear is on my N20 all the time for lack of storage space at home, so I'm probably around 4000 lbs including trailer. I tow with a 6-cyl 210-HP 6000-lb Land Cruiser with 5000-lb tow rating with no problems at 55 mph in flat Florida. I even use overdrive when the load on the engine/drivetrain is lessened on a flat highway at speed. However, whenever I have to go over one of our humpback bridges I'm thankful that I don't live in the mountains. I would really think twice about more-than-occasional use of a 4-cylinder tow vehicle for the N20.
Just my 2 cents, Paul
